As part of the children’s PSHE curriculum a trainer from the company ‘Energize’, was invited to come to the school to teach all the children the rudiments of First Aid which was delivered at the appropriate level for each year group. The sessions were enjoyed by everyone who participated in the practical tasks with enthusiasm and interest.
Learning first aid empowers children to stay calm, recognize dangers, and take life-saving actions during an emergency.
Other reasons why this is part of the school curriculum is that young children can learn how to spot an emergency, call emergency services (like 999), and give details like their location. Older children can learn the recovery position, treat minor burns or bleeds, and assist with choking.
The teaching of these simple procedures can support the children by developing their confidence and early training can support building a child’s self-assurance so they can respond logically rather than freeze.
It will also help our children to become aware of possible risks they might encounter in their everyday lives. It can help them to identify everyday hazards at home, at school, or outdoors, making them safer and more cautious.
Educating the children in this important life skill can save lives!
