On a very hot day today, 26th of June 2026, we were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Bridden from the MAST team to tell us the story of the stranger on the shore.
Today the children heard the story of Jesus appearing to his friends on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.
He had appeared to his followers after Easter Sunday and had continued to show himself to them at different times.
In this story from the Bible the disciples returned to Galilee to go fishing. All night they waited patiently for the fish to catch in the net but after a time the nets were still empty. The disciples worried that people would think they had forgotten their fishing skills.
As dawn broke they saw a stranger on the shore, shouting to them, asking about their catch. The stranger told them to throw their net on the right-hand side of the boat, and so they did.
When they went to check the nets again they saw that they were full! It was at this moment they realized that it wasn’t a stranger on the shore, but Jesus, come to see them before he returned to heaven to be with his father god.
Jesus instructed Simon Peter to take care of his flock, if he truly loved Jesus then Simon Peter would become the rock on which the church would be built. He would teach people all he had seen and knew about Jesus.
