On Thursday 12th February we had another successful Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Day!
These full days staffed by Mrs Plevey and Mr Lydford are wonderful opportunities for the children to put their knowledge into practice addressing challenges that use all of those STEM skills.
In the morning Mrs Plevey had KS1 working in teams to construct marbles runs – label each entrance and time how long it took for each marble to complete the run. In the afternoon session with Mrs P they then had the challenge of constructing their very own marble run from cardboard tubes, working methodically to identify the points not working and fix them accordingly.
Class 2 worked using the Microbits to code a game fo hot potato and rock, paper, scissors.
They also had to work as a team to collaberately construct a marble run which focussed on stability and the delaying of the marble reaching the floor!
Mr Lydford had the children creating a Pinball Machine using rubber bands with the aim of keeping the ball pinging around the machine for as long as possible followed by GAME OVER music when it disappeared between the flippers! There was also the challenge of navigating a ball through a Lego maze which could detect how many moves the ball made – lowest turns to get the ball through the maze won!
