KS2 Subjects this Term

The core subjects of Maths and Literacy are taught every morning and this term in the other curriculum areas we will be looking at the following areas: –

PSHE – Relationships: Be Yourself. We are learning that we are all individuals and that it is important to be ourselves and to develop a positive view of ourselves.  We are also covering RSE.

Geography – Using digital maps to explore human and physical features of a local area and to sketch a map of a small area near our school.

Art –   We are learning specific skills and techniques to confidently use line, shape and value to create our artwork. We are using pencils and ballpoint pens to explore shading, blending and mark-making. We are also learning how to evaluate our own work as well as that of our peers.

DT – Global Food – The children explore and discover the exciting and diverse choice of food available around the world. The first part of the unit provides an opportunity for children to learn where in the world a variety of ingredients flourish. Children will then have the chance to learn some basic and advanced cooking techniques; they will apply these skills when making some traditional dishes from different countries.

History – The children are learning how early civilisation started within Egypt. They shall discover how the upper and lower kingdoms joined together to create the Ancient Egypt of the Old Kingdom. The children will compare the Egyptian time period to Neolithic in Britain, to find out what was happening at the same time and how these two civilisations compared. The children will then discover all about the Egyptian gods, what Ancient Egyptians believed about the afterlife, how the pyramids were built and who the greatest pharaoh was in all of Egypt’s history.

Science – Electricity: constructing simple series circuits containing a variety of components and drawing them using scientific symbols.

Music – Focus this term is singing, leading to a performance before the end of term.

IT – The pupils will be looking at creating animations and being introduced or continuing with the Scratch programme.

RE – The whole school are being introduced to The Lord’s Prayer Unplugged, an opportunity to understand the prayer in depth.   In Collective Worship, the theme this term is Friendship.
