KS1 Subjects this Term

What we are learning this Summer Term in KS1 & EYFS

The core subjects of Math’s and Literacy are taught every morning and this term in the other curriculum areas we will be looking at the following areas: –

PSHE – Keeping ourselves safe: Sun Safety, Emergency Services/ Safety Symbols, Road Safety symbols, Household Symbols (in general – not medicines), RSE.

Geography – Comparing the characteristics of our local area with Tromso in Norway.

Art –   We are looking at the work of sculptor, Barbara Hepworth and have a pottery day booked with a local artist, also the monochromatic and chromatic painting of Ted Harrison.

 

DT – Design a lunch box and think about how to make it waterproof?

Science – Materials: investigating everyday materials and what we use them for – natural and man-made materials.

Music – Focus this term is singing, leading to a performance before the end of term.

IT – The pupils will be looking at creating animations and being introduced or continuing with the Scratch programme.

RE – The whole school are being introduced to The Lord’s Prayer Unplugged, an opportunity to understand the prayer in depth.   In Collective Worship, the theme this term is Friendship.

History – The children will be learning about Air Raid Shelters, linked to our WWII work. They will be learning about Florence Nightingale and Edith Cavell and comparing what they did to support the improvement of hospitals.
