During the week of June 8th 2026, we learnt about ‘Great Big Green Week’. This is an initiative that encourages communities to do what they can on a local level to help our planet and environment. The children were able to contribute ideas about the small things we do as individuals and as a school that can help to make a difference. These included;
- Wildflower garden
- The school pond
- Compost bin for food waste
- Recycling boxes
- Reusable water bottles
- Litter picking
- Bird feeders
- Turning lights off when not needed
On the Thursday we joined a live lesson with children from Malawi and Sierra Leone, to hear directly about their experiences of climate change and how it affects their lives, families and communities. This was a great opportunity for our children to connect across countries and cultures through a real, live conversation. We were also very lucky to have one of our parents provide us with original Malawi artefacts, from her time growing up in Malawi. The children were able to interact with these and found them very interesting.
