Doodlebug Class 1

On Friday the 26th of January 2024 the school were visited by Ian Brealey from Doodlebug. He delivered a workshop to support the mental health and well being of the pupils and this was linked to The Growth Mindset. The workshop involved everyone, both children and adults, creating a picture of a cartoon character using key skills of observation, listening, measuring, thinking and decision making.

Class one children got the opportunity to draw first, creating pictures of a cartoon chicken. Ian commented “Resilience Levels – Excellent, I heard no fixed terminology, nobody gave up. It’s not if the pupils struggle because the sessions are designed to be challenging but its how they bounce back.

It was also obvious to me that they had a very good understanding of shapes and the terminology linked to them.”

For completed picture quality Ian commented “Collectively I would put them at excellent with some of the pupils completing pictures I usually associate with children older than what they actually are.”

When answering questions Ian said, “The pupils also impressed me with not only their answers but the speed of their thought process.”

“I was impressed with not only how well the staff in this classroom supported the children without being too hands on but they also impressed me with their positivity and enthusiasm, not just with regards to how you/they are with the children but also how keen you all were to participate and I only have positive things to say about both the pupils and staff in this classroom.”
