On Wednesday 11th November the children of class 2 each wrote a manifesto as to why they should be voted as Chair or Secretary of the School Council. They then read them to the whole school. Each candidate presented their case articulately and it was obvious that they had thought carefully about what they wanted to say to the rest of the school. It was evident that the children clearly understood the importance and relevance of the British Value of democracy. They have thoroughly enjoyed applying their knowledge of the voting system via their work based around the American Presidential elections. Following their individual speeches, two separate ballot papers were distributed to all staff and pupils for them to cast their vote for the positions of Chair and secretary of the school council. The votes were then folded and placed in a ballot box. Once all votes had been cast the school business officer conducted a count and the results were announced. The reasons for anonymity when voting were discussed with the whole school. We would like to wish the successful candidates our most sincere congratulation and every success during their terms of office. You never know … we could have just voted for a future Prime Minister!
