We would like to thank local residents for coming together and helping to raise over £1,700 for school provisions during special Christmas events.

Pupils showcased their nativity play ‘Straw and Order’ at St Giles Church on Thursday 10 December before the congregation, parents, carers and residents enjoyed a Pea and Pie Supper, organised by the PTFA.

Alison Ivins won the grand raffle first prize; a huge hamper donated by Alan and Eileen Wallace with over £100 worth of Christmas goodies including chutneys, champagne, nibbles, wine, crisps, biscuits, tinned products and nuts. There was also Chinese and chocolate tombolas with great prizes.

School staff, pupils and members of the PTFA are delighted with the success of the event, which saw over 100 people enjoy their supper at school. They would like to thank everyone who supported the evening by donating prizes to the raffle and tombolas and coming along.

A grandparent of one of our pupils said: “I can’t believe for such a small, rural school, how busy and popular the event has been. It is lovely to see the festive spirit in the village and this school really is at the heart of the community.”

More than £1,243 was raised, in addition to £480 raised at the annual Christmas market on Wednesday 4 November.

All the money will go towards new provisions at school to aid children’s learning and curriculum.

Head Teacher, Tracy Blackwell said: “I am so proud of the children and how well they did to learn and remember their lines for the nativity play. The whole show was wonderful including the children’s performances and the songs too.

“Thank you to everyone who came along to enjoy the play and the supper that followed. We all had a very enjoyable and festive evening. It is fantastic to hear how much money has been raised from the generosity of local community members, to enhance the children’s education.”

Members of the nativity play audience also had the chance to see two displays in church and at school that children have been working on during their studies this term. They’ve put the exhibitions together by researching areas around British Values including Advent, Christianity, New Years Eve and the celebration of Queen Elizabeth becoming the longest-reigning British Monarch this year. They’ve also showcased their thoughts and ideas after visiting an inner-city farm and a mosque with Lowfield Primary School friends in Sheffield last month.
