The upper juniors visited the Urban Studies Centre in Chesterfield on the last day of a busy half term learning all about Roman in Britain. Chesterfield has an interesting Roman past and we were looking forward to finding out about the varied artefacts that have been discovered recently by archaeologists.  During the day the children had the opportunity to participate in a number of ‘hands on’ experiences such as measuring the length of the site of the Roman fort – now the main shopping street – and investigating artefacts in the museum. Despite the snow storm raging outside, the day culminated in a visit to the Town Hall to study and sketch the architectural style of the building.
