Organisers of this year’s Flower Festival in Hartington are hailing it as a huge success and want to thank people from near and far who visited the village as part of the celebrations.

The annual event was held from Friday 5th to Tuesday 9th of June at St Giles’ Church with a theme of 1915 remembered.

More than 300 people poured into the church during that time with comments in the visitor’s book from residents across the UK including Nottingham, Sheffield, London, Liverpool and Edinburgh and more locally including Derby, Sheen, Glossop, Belper, Dronfield, Tissington and Buxton. There was also a note from a guest visiting from Vancouver in Canada!

Warslow Silver Band performed in concert on Friday 5th of June; youngsters from Hartington C of E Primary School entertained visitors at the Village Hall with maypole dancing on Saturday and a Songs of Praise concert took place on Sunday.

Member of the Community Group and Parochial Church Council, Liz Broomhead MBE, said: “We are delighted with the success of this year’s Flower Festival and we anticipate to have raised around £1,000 through donations in church and at the village hall for refreshments, which will go towards the upkeep of our beautiful church.”

“We would like to thank everyone who came to the village and sincerely hope they enjoyed the festival and the wonderful showcase.”

“We would also like to thank the local people who worked to create the poignant displays, and the volunteer stewards who welcomed visitors to the church to explain more about the festival and the village’s history. We are now looking forward to preparing for 2016’s event and hopefully mirroring this year’s achievement.”
